September is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

Alzheimer’s may be the most common type of dementia, accounting for an estimated 60 – 80 percent of all cases, but it is not the only one. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, “dementia” is a general term for a group of conditions that affects a person’s mental capabilities severely enough to interfere with everyday life; memory loss is just one example of many possible symptoms. Although types of dementia may overlap, they are associated with distinct symptoms, patterns and distinguishing microscopic brain abnormalities.

September is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

 

The theme for World Alzheimer's Month is Remember Me. September 2016

This September is the fifth global World Alzheimer’s Month! It is an international campaign, started in 2012 by the Alzheimer’s Disease International, that is aiming to raise awareness of the disease and to challenge the stigma surrounding dementia. It’s meant to unite opinion leaders, people living with dementia, caregivers and families, medical professionals, researchers, and the media from all over the world.
