Mississauga Senior Care Business Owner Launches Book

Greg Bechard, owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Mississauga, will be launching the book, What Next? Navigating Later Life Transitions, on Wednesday in Etobicoke.

Webster a grief counsellor in Canada and editor of What’s Next says “The book is trying to indicate to people that change is inevitable and we really need to organize our lives,” adding that a high percentage of people die without leaving a will.

Greg Bechard, owner of Home Instead Senior Care, co-authored the book with Bev Evans, Elaine Frost, Deirdre Slowey, Jasmine Sweatman and Kim Whaley — each of whom contributed an area of expertise, from law to wealth management.

“The key decision that needs to be made, as an individual, is that you need to have a plan. You need to have a clear understanding of what you want and where you want to go,” said Bechard, who lives in Meadowvale Village.

“Retirement certainly is an option,” he noted, “but the book goes into far greater detail to reach your personal goals and what’s important to you — and maybe that doesn’t include retirement; it might include working with a downsizing expert.”

Although the themes are universal, there are a number of resources in Etobicoke, Mississauga and Oakville contained in the text of the book.

Individuals who are not in their later years could also benefit from the book, said Bechard, who adds he benefited from the legal advice it provided.

“The same individual that is maybe looking to downsize the family home, in a lot of cases, is not necessarily dealing with developing a care plan for themselves, but they are caring for an aging loved one,” he said.

“These are the practical decisions that people need to make in life’s later stages,” added Webster.
